Do I still love my husband… or have I just got used to him?

Let’s be honest.
Sometimes it’s love. Sometimes it’s loyalty.
And sometimes it’s just… two people who know exactly how the other likes their tea.

This isn’t about guilt.

Because midlife has a way of whispering:
“Is this it?”
And you deserve to answer that properly.

1) Signs it’s still love (even if it’s quieter now)

Mark what fits:

✅ I still feel warmth for him, even when I’m annoyed
✅ I care about his wellbeing (not just the logistics)
✅ I miss him when he’s not around
✅ I want good things for him — even if we’re stuck in a rut
✅ When we laugh, it feels easy and familiar (in a good way)
✅ I feel emotionally safe with him
✅ I can imagine growing older with him if things improved

*If you ticked 4+: love is still there. It may just be buried under life.

*If you ticked 0-3: love may not be the problem — but connection is. Something important is missing day-to-day.

2) Signs it might be habit (and comfort)

Mark what fits:

✅ We function well as a team… but not as lovers
✅ The relationship feels more practical than emotional
✅ I feel like I’m living with a roommate
✅ We rarely talk properly (we just exchange updates)
✅ I don’t feel seen — I feel managed
✅ The thought of effort between us feels exhausting
✅ If nothing changed for 5 years… I’d feel a bit numb

*If you ticked 4+:  you may be living on autopilot.

* If you ticked 0–3: it might not be habit — it might be something else (stress, resentment, or simply distance that’s grown quietly).

3) Signs it might be fear (not love)

Mark what fits:

✅ I stay because leaving feels terrifying
✅ I worry I’ll regret it / ruin everything
✅ I’m scared of being alone (even if I feel alone now)
✅ I don’t feel free to be fully myself
✅ I minimise my needs to keep the peace
✅ I daydream about a different life more than I talk about this one
✅ I feel relief when he’s not around

*If you ticked 4+:  something needs attention. Not necessarily a breakup. But a truth.
*If you ticked 0-3: it may not be fear holding you back… it may be uncertainty. You’re not “fine” — you’re just not at breaking point.

The 5 questions that cut through the fog

Answer quickly — no overthinking.

  1. Do I feel more like myself with him… or smaller?

  2. If we met today, would I choose him again?

  3. Am I staying because I love him… or because I’m scared?

  4. Do I want closeness with him — or just peace?

  5. What am I quietly grieving in this relationship?

What to do this week (simple, no drama)

Pick ONE MOVE:

Option A — Reconnect (if love is still there)

Have one real conversation:
“I miss us. Can we talk about what we’ve become?”

Option B — Reality check (if you feel stuck)

Notice this for 7 days:

  • When do I feel warm towards him?

  • When do I shut down?

  • What do I avoid saying?

Option C — Boundaries (if you feel drained)

Stop “being nice” at your own expense.
You don’t need a fight. You need honesty.

Lizzy’s final truth

Clarity doesn’t demand a decision today.
It just stops you living on autopilot.
